The Retro Sixties Replica Windbreaker by Adaptor Clothing a Review...

Adaptor Clothing are a brand that have been around since I poked by head around the door of the broadchurch that is Modernism way back in 2008. I used to remember seeing their adverts in magazines like Scootering and they always had garms on offer that appealed to this young Mod kid from Middlesbrough. When I was 14, I still hadn't started my part time job of glass collecting at a local boozer, thankfully, that came the year after when I was 15, which allowed me to really build my wardrobe from there on in. Over the years that have passed, Adaptor have started to produce stuff on their own label and its been really refreshing to see new stuff being created, rather than just the usual fodder from the usual labels. As all good Modernist labels should, Adaptor have take some inspiration from the past and used that to inform the future and their current pieces. The Retro Sixties Replica Windbreaker in navy is a prime example of this and big thanks to Paul Brown and the good people over at Adaptor for the jacket. Here's my thoughts...

Adaptor have got it just right with this piece. They've hit the perfect balance between the essential trio of sleek, casual and smart. The windbreaker looks absolutely great on and fits like a dream. There's nothing worse than a boss looking jacket that fits dreadfully. Based on an original 1960's windbreaker, this jacket really captures that smart, cafe culture look that I always admired from Richard Barne's book, "Mods!" you can see it being paired with a nice sky blue John Smedley or even a button down and it not looking out of place with either. I love a transitional jacket like this one, ideal for those summer nights down the boozer when the British beer garden chill rears its ugly head or for a Saturday at the football pair with a crew neck and button down when it feels like Autumn is in the air. Made from 60%/40% combination of Polyester and a Cotton Water Repellent Outer Fabric, the windbreaker is ideal for those summer showers and is brought up to 2024 standards with this practical use of modern materials. The Tonal Mesh Lining keeps you cool and adds to the sleek fit which gives the jacket great character.

Technical jarg over with, the the detail on this piece is simple yet very effective. Available in blue, orange and navy the colours compliment the jacket perfectly and make it stand out but not look overly garish. I'm a huge fan of the white contrasting piping which follows the zip all the way up the stand-up tunic collar. It gives it a really quite striking look which is also slightly reminiscent of those ace Penguin 'Ratner' jackets that Oasis were seen wearing in the "Dig Out Your Soul" era. The Asymmetrical chest and hip zips give it that technical edge and remind me of some Engineered Garments bits I've had over the years, and that can't be a bad thing! Both the hip and the neck drawstrings add to both the overall fit and to the contemporary look this jacket does so well. As always with Adaptor's own brand gear, the quality and fit are paramount and you know where your money's going, which is a godsend in this day and age! Well played to Paul and the team for recreating a lovely bit of garb that will stand strong from season to season. Get yours here!
